Humanity at a crossroads

We are living in a time where there seems to be upheaval everywhere: we have a gruesome war in Europe, we have climate change, violent floodings, droughts, pandemics, alternative ´truths´, a lot of countries led by tyrants and dictators who keep their population in a wrench, we have inflation and a lot of unhappy fates among many people.

It is no wonder that many people are afraid of the future and fear that we are on the brink of destroying the wonderful planet we are living on. I hear people say that they don’t think there will be people alive here in 100 years. Many fear that the end is near.

It is in times like these that we really need a cosmic perspective on our present situation and Martinus offers us such a perspective in his writings. Martinus had cosmic consciousness and he was able to analyze our present time from a cosmic angle.

These dark times are not the end

What we are living through right now is in no way the end but the downfall of an old world culture and the rise of a new. Martinus puts it like this: “What we are experiencing is the demise of a culture, its death throes so to speak, but it is also the birth of a new culture and thus its birth pangs. That is why there is so much suffering and pain and so many difficulties”. Or put in another way: it is the death pangs of a world culture characterized by selfishness, greed, power-hunger, killings and war. But at the same time, it is the birth pains of a new world culture characterized by world peace, altruism, humaneness, compassion, desires to help and serve, and universal love.

But before the new world culture can get a proper foothold, the old must fall and die. The old is fighting to keep its position on the world stage and even though it still does not know it, its days are numbered. The new world culture will get a stronger and stronger foothold and in a few centuries it will have conquered the whole planet.

How can the new world culture win?

There is absolutely no doubt about the outcome of this struggle between the forces of darkness and the forces of light. How can I be so sure? I can because evolution can only go forwards and in the universe there exists a fabulous pedagogic tool that will correct all our errors and that is the law of karma.

The law of karma decrees that we reap as we sow, or put in another way: what we do to others, we eventually do to ourselves.

Through our many lives on the physical plane this law has molded us from being primitive, selfish beings to gradually becoming more and more humane. When we sow killings and darkness for others, we will reap killings and darkness in our own lives. And when we reap the darkness and suffering that we have exposed other to, we will suffer greatly.

But our suffering is not in vain. Each time we suffer, our eyes are opened a little bit to the sufferings of others. And over many lives, we evolve to become compassionate, all-loving human beings, that can only sow love.

The Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy once said: “If you feel pain, you’re alive. If you feel other people’s pain, you’re a human being.”

What Tolstoy said is precisely the point: we must evolve to the point where we feel the pain of others and only then are we human beings.

Fortunately, we are well on our way towards that point, and we are close to the tipping point where the peace-loving humans will outnumber the selfish warmongers.

Each time we have an armed conflict, more peace lovers are created, for the simple reason that when the soldier, who has suffered greatly in war, is reborn, s/he will be against war. In his supraconsciousness there will be a strong echo of the sufferings he went through during the war, and this means that he can no longer participate in another armed conflict. Life itself has converted him into a pacifist and this process is taking place all over the planet.

Wars lead to wisdom

Martinus says that wars are here to teach us. They are huge lessons for humanity. They create experience and insight. They are illustrations of what happens when we are selfish, greedy, power hungry and have no respect for the lives of other living beings. They illustrate what happens when we kill other living beings to gain power and riches for ourselves.

The warlord that rejoices over his victory won on the dead bodies of his so-called enemy, will soon realize that the sweetness of victory is only like the sweet glazing on a bitter pill that he will soon have to swallow. No lasting peace and happiness can be won on the sufferings of others.

This is what life is showing us and it is a huge lesson for humanity. We MUST realize that we cannot enjoy our own lasting happiness when a lot of other living beings are suffering. We must stop thinking only of ourselves and strengthen our altruistic sides.

We must realize that a lot of things have to change. We must start respecting the planet more by stopping the greed- driven exploitation of its resources, we must stop the senseless, cruel and totally unnecessary production of meat and go plant-based now. Nobody needs animal protein to live. It is a huge, unfounded superstition that has led to unheard-of sufferings for billions of animals.

The necessity of a spiritual outlook on life

Today, in the midst of wars and sufferings, it is obvious that the old world culture has led the world to the brink of Armageddon. We do not need any more illustration when we look at the total mess the world is in. We must wake up to fact that now is the time to let go of the old ´values´ that have led us to where we are today.

Without a spiritual outlook we will be stuck in the false idea that we only live once and that our actions have no consequences. It is only when we realize that this is not the only life we live and that we will reap what we once sowed towards others – animals and humans – that real change can happen.

Our future is bright and wonderful

A new world impulse is flooding the planet and its effects are a raised awareness of the need for a spiritual outlook on life, a deeper respect for the lives of other living beings, a deeper respect for the Earth as a living being, and a realization that we cannot have lasting happiness for ourselves as long as a lot of other living beings are suffering. We are all responsible and we all have to contribute to making this world a better place for every living being. We cannot run and hide from this new impulse and we have to do our best to help it spread.

The time when the peace-lovers, helpers and altruists reach critical mass and outnumber the war-lovers is very very near. The tipping point is just around the corner and then a new world culture will arise from the ashes of the old just like the Phoenix did.

And once the peace-lovers rule the planet, a society with world peace, equality, prosperity for all, justice, love and spiritual insight will gradually conquer today´s Armageddon and a new dawn will shine on us all.

So, let us not despair, but work tirelessly to improve ourselves and by so doing, improve the world.
