We are living in very challenging times and a lot of people around me are wondering why we have so much war, unrest, protest, antagonism and misery right now.

The answer lies in what we have sown in this and former lives. Have we been good and loving towards our fellow man or have we been selfish, self-serving and indifferent to the miserable conditions we allow other living beings to live under? Have we been egoistic, greedy and thought only of ourselves? Or have we helped our neighbor where we could?  Have we had compassion with those in need? Have we loved our neighbour?

Martinus says that everything that happens to us is a lesson. Nothing more and nothing less. It is not a punishment, but an illustration in kind of what we have done to others previously. In this life or in a former life.

Right now the population on the planet is exposed to a huge lesson. We have been taught in church and school that we must love our neighbor. We have been told to show compassion with those in need and share what we have. The parable of the good Samaritan tells us exactly what to do when we meet a person in need. But have we heeded this teaching? No, we have not.

For millennia we have been told to help, share, show compassion and love others. But has it helped? Has it had the slightest effect on our behavior? Not really. And when we will not listen, we must feel. We must learn the hard way. Words and warnings did not help, so now only actions turned against ourselves will help us change our egoistic ways.

In other words: we must feel on our own bodies what we once did to others. This “treatment” always helps. But it is not pleasant to experience. However, it always works eventually. When we have been through suffering due to our selfish disdain for the misery of other living beings, we will eventually change our ways. Our own suffering will open our eyes and make us see our selfish behaviour and turn us into loving, compassionate beings.  It is this painful lesson we are experiencing all over the planet right now.

Obviously, not everybody is equally selfish and insensitive to the suffering of others. Those who live in peaceful countries with a social safety net are not directly affected by the wars. It is something they read about and worry about and feel sad about, but it does not affect their daily lives directly.

But this is pure coincidence, most people will say. But it is not! In this amazing universe nothing happens by chance and our fates are all, no exception, ruled by the law of karma: you reap as you sow. This law is so fine-tuned that “even the hairs on our head are numbered”.

You cannot make others suffer and not reap the consequences, in this life or a future life. This is one of the most important laws of life, and the sooner we start living by it, the better for us. We must learn to only sow what we would be happy to reap. Learning this is the greatest challenge facing humankind today. Too few humans know about this law and they think they can do whatever they want to others and not reap the consequences. Here I am especially thinking of the dictators in power today. They have no idea what terrible fates they are sowing for themselves in future lives. The strictest justice rules the universe.

In our “karmic account book” it is not only our unloving actions towards other humans that count. When we lock young animals up in small pens with little room to move and keep them there in miserable conditions until they have become fat enough to eat, then we sow a very dark karma for ourselves.

Let us make a fictive calculation: let us say that we have killed 78 other living beings over our last 35 lives. These include the killings of the animals we have eaten.

Let us say that we have been killed 19 times for the 78 lives we have taken. At a certain point in time our own sufferings in connection with being killed make us realize that we must change something in our lives. Our sufferings have ripened our sense of compassion and now, gradually, we begin to feel in our hearts the suffering of others. And then we can no longer participate in inflicting any more suffering on others.

So, for the 78 lives we have taken, we have “only” been killed 19 times. But now we have understood, deeply understood in our hearts, that we must not ever again participate in killings of other living beings of any kind.

What happens then to the remaining 59 lives we took?

They are erased from our “karmic account book”. We never get to “pay” for those lives taken. Now, why is that? It is because, as I have pointed out innumerable times, karma is not a punishment. It is a loving instruction. It is a well-meant lesson. And when we show, via our behavior, that we have learned the lesson, no more instruction is needed.

One fine day we realize that the steak on our plate comes from a living being that wanted to live and whose life was taken for the steak to be on our plate. We feel remorse, we feel responsible and we feel an urge to not participate in taking any more lives.

So we decide from now on to live on a plant-based diet. We are so certain about this choice that we never let a bit of meat or fish pass our lips. With this conviction in our hearts our old karmic debt is erased from our karmic account book. Just like that.

How can this be? It can because just as you do not continue to teach a child the ABC once it has learned to read, more instruction is superfluous. That person does not need any more lessons or instructions. S/he has graduated with honors.

Now you may say that plants are also living beings, so why should I rather participate in their killing than the killing of an animal? It is because plants have not evolved as far as animals on the ladder of evolution and their nervous system is not evolved enough to make them feel pain. The plant can have a faint and unspecified sensation of what goes on around it, they can feel heat and cold, they can close their flowers against the rain and wind, but they cannot feel pain.

The animal, on the contrary, can feel pain just as we humans can, and faced with two evils, we should always chose the lesser evil. And plants are what we are supposed to have as food according to the Bible.

Our decision to live on a plant-based diet not only affects our karma in a life-changing way, it also affects our health drastically. Plant eaters are in general much healthier than meat eaters and let us explore why.

The vibration of meat is more or less on level with the vibration of our own body. We have muscle fiber versus muscle fiber. In order to digest the meat the vibration of our body must overcome the vibration of the meat. Due to the similarity in vibration our body has very little margin (if any) with which to overcome the vibration in the meat, so it has to pull all its reserves from vital functions in other parts of the body into the job of digestion. When it does that, the body in general loses force, and we feel exceedingly tired. We have to go and lie down.

When we have exposed our digestive system to this overload of work for 40 to 50 years, we have effectively undermined the general health of our body. And we succumb to one or several deadly diseases that old age brings with it such as cancers, heart diseases, circulatory diseases, diabetes, boils etc. The vibration of cancers and boils is so similar to the vibration of the meat that we nurture them when we eat meat.

But we need the protein in the meat, you may now say. No you do not. You absolutely do not! All recent research points out that we only need 30 to 40 grams of protein per day to function. And plants also have lots of protein. Most plants and grains have protein, and mind you, protein of a much more easily digestible kind than that of meat. Animal protein puts a strain on the body. It is unhealthy for us.

The present protein hype that we are exposed to from the media has no scientific basis. It has been invented by the meat industry and others, so that they can keep their position on the market. It is, in other words, driven by greed. If you don´t believe me, please read https://nutritionfacts.org/

Planteaters never put their bodies on overwork. The vibration of the human body is much stronger than the vibration of the plants and fruits, so they never undermine their health. For that reason they remain free of illnesses far into their old age.

Going plant based has many advantages and a well-informed human would not let his taste buds, tradition or mainstream pressure rule his health.

But as long as we have free will, we can chose. The best choice is to remember to love our neighbor, whoever he is.
