On meditation
Is it a good idea to meditate? Yes, it is, so let us look at the benefits and the caveats. Meditation offers a wide range of benefits for the mind, body, and overall well-being. Here are some of the most well-documented and widely reported benefits:
- Reduces Stress
- Meditation helps lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, leading to a calmer mind.
- Improves Focus and Concentration
- Practices like mindfulness and focused attention improve your ability to concentrate and stay present.
- Enhances Emotional Health
- Regular meditation is associated with decreased symptoms of anxiety and depression, and increased feelings of well-being.
- Promotes Self-Awareness
- Helps you become more aware of your thoughts and behaviors, promoting personal growth and mindfulness.
- Supports Emotional Regulation
- Meditation increases gray matter in brain areas linked to emotional regulation, such as the prefrontal cortex.
It is in other words, it is a good idea to meditate on a daily basis, and personally I have done so for over 30 years. Almost every morning I meditate for 16 minutes. Not more. Why not for longer? Because I have things to do, a life to live, commitments, work to prepare etc.
Martinus also recommends that we meditate on a daily basis, but he underlines three caveats:
- It can be dangerous to meditate without proper guidance and protection. When you try to connect to the spiritual world, you are connecting to a huge sea of energy: the thought matter at large in the universe. Remember that thoughts are energy, and the empty space of the universe is a sea of energy. If a very spiritually ambitious person tries to attract a cosmic glimpse or moment of enlightenment without proper protection, this can have fatal consequences for the mental health of that person. If a ray of high energy suddenly enters the consciousness of the unprepared person it may provoke a premature Kundalini effect, and this is extremely harmful. It may make you an invalid for the rest of your present incarnation. Kundalini is the inner spiritual energy that, when awakened, leads to transformation of consciousness and self-realization. It is revered as a sacred and potent force that must be respected and cultivated with care. It cannot be forced but will develop organically as we evolve over many incarnations.
- For that reason, you must protect yourself during meditation. Martinus says that there is no better protection than The Lord´s Prayer. Just sit quietly in your chair and say this prayer inwardly. Then you are protected from dangerously high energies entering your consciousness. Martinus underlines that there is no better protection anywhere than this prayer.
- You cannot reach enlightenment via meditation alone. I often talk to people with a spiritual interest who believe that they can meditate their way to cosmic consciousness or enlightenment. For that reason, they go on retreats where they sit and meditate for 8 hours each day. But that is basically just a waste of time, because you will only reach enlightenment when you, through your experiences, lessons learnt, trials and errors and suffering over thousands of lives, have matured to being a very all-loving person that can only emanate universal love. There are no short-cuts to enlightenment. It is out there, in real life with all its challenges, lessons, suffering and a growing accumulation of wisdom, that you mature to becoming a candidate for enlightenment. It is when you grapple with life’s challenges over thousands of physical lives that you gradually mature into a spiritually enlightened being. If you simply sit alone in silence in a room, you are depriving yourself of the very challenges of life that will eventually teach you enough lessons to become an enlightened being.
When he was 30 years old, Martinus achieved cosmic consciousness during meditation, when he meditated on the concept of God. This fact has made some people believe, that meditating on God is all it takes to become enlightened. But that is far from the case. When this happened to Martinus, it was because he had already matured to this high level of consciousness through many many former lives. He had already matured to this level when he reincarnated in physical form as Martinus. He was already a finished human being, and he was on a mission to reveal a whole new world picture to humankind: Martinus’ spiritual science. In order to be able to complete this complicated task, he had been prepared over a number of previous lives, so that he already had access to the sea of knowledge of the universe. It was on the basis of this access that he was able to reveal his spiritual science to humankind.
The conclusion is simply this: go out there and grapple with life, accumulate experiences, make mistakes, “sin” a lot, (in a cosmic sense there are no sins), and misbehave. It is especially via our mistakes that we learn our lessons. It’s fine to go off track, because in that way you learn a lot. When you sit alone in your room, behaving like a saint, your learning experiences are too meagre to lead you forward in any significant way.
But meditate for a short time each day just to connect to the spiritual world, get strength to face the day and get reassurance, stress reduction and enhance your ability to focus and concentrate.
There is no authorized way to meditate: Just sit in a comfortable chair, close your eyes and concentrate on the higher being. Try to reduce the chatter in your head, breathe calmly and express gratitude for the lessons you have learned. And sit in silent prayer reciting The Lord´s Prayer. Then your whole being will benefit from this time off from your busy schedule.
